As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers to keep our rescue running. Beyond monetary donations, we can always use help with community service projects. Below are a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing.

Host an Item Donation Drive

We’ve put together simple instructions to launch your own donation drive at your workplace, school, or community center:

  1. Set a date and location: Choose a date and drop box location for the donation drive. Make sure to check with building management or school principals first to confirm they allow donation drives.

  2. Recruit a team: Gather a group of volunteers who are willing to help you organize the donation drive. Assign specific tasks to each person, such as promoting the event, collecting donations, and transporting the supplies to the shelter.

  3. Post flyers and share on social media: Spread the word about the donation drive with flyers and social media posts. We make it easy by providing Canva templates you can edit with the dates of your drive and drop box locations.

  4. Set up collection bins: Set up collection bins or boxes for people to drop off their donations. Make sure to label the bins clearly with what supplies are needed. If you need ideas for items, check out our Chewy wishlist and/or our Amazon wishlist.

  5. Promote the event: Consider offering incentives for people to donate, such as free coffee/snacks or a raffle prize. You can also make it a friendly competition between teams/classrooms to see who can gather the most donations.

  6. Deliver the donations: Once the donation drive is over, sort the supplies and deliver them to Felius Cat Café (5015 Dodge Street Suite #101). Coordinate with bre@felius.org on the delivery date/time so we can celebrate your amazing contribution! Felius can also arrange to pick up donations.

Launch a ‘Penny’ Drive

A penny drive can be a fun, low-cost way to raise funds for Felius while getting the community involved! Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Set a goal and time frame: Having a fundraising target, even a modest one, can make the drive feel more tangible and help volunteers and donors stay motivated! It can even create some friendly competition. Make sure you give your fundraiser a realistic timeframe so that participants have plenty of notice to collect pennies.

  2. Set up collection bins: Get large jars, bins, or piggy banks for donations. Transparent containers work well since people can see the coins accumulating, which is motivating! Identify locations around the community where you can place the containers—schools, local businesses, the cat cafe, vet clinics, and pet supply stores are ideal.

  3. Post flyers and share on social media: Spread the word about the donation drive with flyers and social media posts. We make it easy by providing Canva templates you can edit with the dates of your drive and donation box locations.

  4. Promote the event: Consider offering incentives for people to donate, such as a raffle prize. You can also make it a friendly competition between teams/classrooms to see who can gather the most pennies.

  5. Deliver the donations: Once the penny drive is over, deliver the money raised to Felius Cat Café (5015 Dodge Street Suite #101). Coordinate with bre@felius.org on the delivery date/time so we can celebrate your amazing contribution! Felius can also arrange to pick up donations.
