General volunteer requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

  • Must attend volunteer orientation training session.

  • All volunteers are required to sign a liability release waiver.

  • You must shadow a volunteer lead for one session prior to volunteering in the cat playroom.

Available board positions

Board positions have a 1-year minimum term requirement.

Treasurer

This volunteer position is responsible for managing the financial affairs of our organization and ensuring that financial records are accurate and up-to-date. This includes developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, monitoring our organization's financial performance, and presenting financial reports to the board. The Board of Directors Treasurer serves as a key advisor to the board on financial matters. This role requires you to donate approximately 10 hours per month and that you attend monthly board meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the organization's financial performance and make recommendations to the board on financial matters.

  • Prepare and present regular financial reports to the board.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and laws.

  • Work with the board and other key stakeholders to develop and manage the organization's budget.

  • Provide financial guidance and advice to the board and executive team as needed.

  • Develop and implement new financial policies and procedures as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Experience in a similar financial management role, preferably with a nonprofit organization or board of directors.

  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in financial management software and other relevant software programs.

  • Knowledge of financial regulations and laws relevant to nonprofit organizations is a plus.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities

  • Fostering: We always need help fostering cats and kittens who are not yet old enough (or the right fit) to be in our café. If you are interested, please visit our foster page for details on how to apply.

  • Cat Feeding & monitoring: We need volunteers to hang in our cat play area and ensure that patrons are interacting responsibly with our adoptable animals. Additionally, we can always use help with feeding and scooping litter boxes.

  • Trap-neuter-return (TNR): Assist with trapping feral cats and transporting them to get spayed/neutered and vaccination prior to release.

  • Fundraising & grant writing: As a nonprofit, fundraising is how we are able to continue operating and execute our mission. If you have fundraising experience and don’t mind making cold- calls, this is the volunteer position for you!

  • Events: Felius hosts several fundraising and fun events throughout the year. We need amazing volunteers to help concept, plan, and staff these events.

  • Photography & design: Are you an amazing designer or photographer who loves cats? We are always looking for partners to help promote our mission.
